Preliminary Evaluation

Our brief was to make a short media artefact that demonstrated we understood continuity techniques. The continuity techniques that we had to demonstrate were match on action, 180 degree rule, shot reverse-shot, characters exchanging dialogue and open door and cross the room.

During my production I faced some challenges. During pre-production my group had finished the story board but when it came to recording we had forgotten to bring the story board so we couldn't record and had to start the story board again, this brought us behind in the class and had to catch up. Also another challenge was finding props, as we had to find a detective hat. In the end we didn't use a hat due to the fact we couldn't find one, so instead we used a detective/police badge. During production we only had one lesson to film our preliminary task. We had a few issues with filming, as we couldn't find an appropriate place to film due to all the classrooms being used at the time and also the lighting of most of the classrooms were very bad. it was either too dark or too bright.  We also had a few problems with filming due to the actors giggling so it took longer then expected. Once it came to post-production we only had a little time to actually get the editing done. Because of this my editing wasn't to the best of my ability. I had a few issues with editing as I had forgotten how to cut and edit clips, but I soon got the hang of it.

To achieve a better piece of work, next time we should plan out what rooms and props we will need for the task so we know for definite we will get a good room. we should also stay organized making sure everything is properly planned out before hand. Also we should make sure we don't misplace the story board as that leads to having to make another one in the time we could be spending on filming.
